It’s time to grab the surfboard and hit Robot Beach! Matt Forcum joins me to talk about his first year in webcomics, what he’s learned, and how he creates the most excellent Robot Beach. Matt’s an animator, a teacher, and quite obviously, a very talented writer and artist. I love talking to established pros on my show, but I equally love hearing from the ones who are just starting out and getting their feet under them. I can’t recommend Robot Beach enough as an example of what to do right when you’re starting out, from character design and writing, to interacting with your fan base. Enjoy!

Wonderful interview! I was very happy to hear Matt’s process was about as backwards as mine is. Now I can feel a little less “wrong.”

And having watched “Finding Nemo” about 4,503 times with my daughter, I do agree that it’s a great film. Very tight….but “The Incredibles” is going to be hard to top in my book.
I’ve heard “The Incredibles’” praises so many times on this show by you and guests I think it’s time I rent it

Tom: Thank GOD, someone else sings the praises of The Incredibles! It seems it’s the most overlooked and under appreciated movie in the Pixar catalog. Even Cars gets more attention. I do have to say though, I am also a big fan of Monsters Inc. The storyline and character design is superb. And it’s the only animated feature that brings a tear to my eye to this day.
Tom, I just came across these podcasts, and I have to say they are great. You do a great job and have a lot of great guests that I’m looking forward to listening to as I scour the archives.

Luuuuuucas! Glad I could bring a little joy to the quake aftermath. We had a good shake, but no damage. It was a little….intense.
PJ! My 4 year old daughter will put that movie in from time to time, and I am always happy to see it. It improves with time and honestly, just might be the best superhero movie of all time. (As for tears, that moment in Toy Story 2 with the Sarah McLaughlin song about “She Loved Me” reduces me to tears every time. And the 20 minute opening of “Up?” Don’t get me started.
