Rick Kirkman, the artist of “Baby Blues,” which is in over 1200 papers, joins me for a talk on his art, working with his old friend and colleague Jerry Scott, and their interesting and frustrating journey into television animation! It’s quite an honor to have someone of his experience and talent on the show, so help me celebrate 20 years of “Baby Blues” with him!

Great show, I’ve been going back through the archives, your doing nice job.
Jeff
This was a really cool, Tom. I remember whan Baby Blues started up in the Star Ledger in Jersey. I think I was in high school and it was my Sunday tradition to grab the “funnies” while my parents read the paper on a Sunday afternoon. I remember liking Baby Blues from the get go. It was a lot of fun hearing about its origins from Rick!
What a great interview! I had no idea the dailies were graphite. Makes me want to try that. Hmm…
As always, Tom – knocked it outta the park with another big shot!
Jeff! Thanks for coming…and enjoy the archives. There are some great artists out there who for some reason, decided to come to my slice of the podcast world.
Irma! Yeah…Baby Blues is one of the really good ones out there…sharp writing and great art. And much funnier when you have kids.
Lucas! I know…I was really surprised when he said that…I think you can tell. I thought…”wait…you do the finals in graphite?” I don’t think i’ve heard that before. Very cool idea…I always complain about my inking…maybe you don’t HAVE to ink!
David! Thanks, brutha. I’m continually amazed that these folks answer my emails, let alone come on the show!
Tom — I feel the same about my inking. Now really considering the graphite only thing. Hmmm….
I’m excited about the idea of doing inks with graphite as well. Kazu did this for the Amulet series, but this may have been more of an issue of saving time for him.
Great interview once again!
Did he really use graphite for the Amulet series, Tony? I just picked book 1 up this weekend.
